That strange, wonderful stretch after Christmas and before New Year’s… where no one quite knows what day it is, elastic waistbands become essential, and “What’s for dinner?” is answered with “leftovers… again.” It’s the pause button we didn’t know we needed — a soft exhale after the chaos, sparkle, and social marathon of Christmas.
For some, this time is all about recharging. Sleeping in. Switching off alarms. Letting the inbox rot quietly while you reconnect with yourself (and your couch). For others, it’s family time — slower conversations, fewer expectations, kids running feral in the backyard, and moments that feel less staged and more real. No schedules, no rush, just being present.
And then there’s summer doing what summer does best. Beach days, salty skin, sand where it absolutely shouldn’t be, afternoon swims followed by cold drinks and even colder air-con. Holidays where time stretches, inhibitions soften, and suddenly you remember what it feels like to actually relax — not just recover.
It’s also prime time for catching up with friends. The kind of catch-ups that start with “just one drink” and end hours later in deep conversations, laughter, and plans that may or may not be remembered clearly the next day. Connections feel easier right now — warmer, looser, more open.
And for some… well, the in-between time can also be a little playful. A chance to reconnect with partners, explore curiosity, or enjoy some deliciously unstructured playtime. Less pressure, more presence. After all, when the year is winding down, why not enjoy the moments that make you feel alive?
However you spend it — resting, reconnecting, adventuring, or indulging — this time is a gift. A gentle reset before the calendar flips and life speeds up again. Savour it. January can wait.
